The Men’s 4 x100 meter relay final was the final event on Day Nine.

The crowd was on their feet as the US 4 x100m women’s relay team of Melissa Jefferson, Abby Steiner,

Jennifer Prandini and Twanisha Terry ran 41.14WL to Jamaica’s 41.18.

This may have been the biggest upset of the entire World Championships in 2022!

Could the U.S. men, who had suffered through DQs, and some horrific handoffs get over that bad luck and takes its rightful place among the best Men’s 4 x 100-meter relay teams in the world?

Well, the U.S. had looked good throughout the qualifying and showed that they would be a contender. The problem was, and is, that at the World Champs, teams run out of their heads.

The U.S. team was Elijah Hall, Noah Lyles to, Christian Coleman to Marvin Bracy.

Most thought it would be the U.S. versus Jamaica. Those in the know thought that Canada could be a player. And they were!

The Canadian team, with Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney, Jerome Blake, and Andre de Grasse, was tight. These guys wanted one thing, to defeat the US on their own turf and show that Canada was the best North American sprint relay, team.

In the first two legs, US and Canada were running well. In leg three, the pass between Lyles and Coleman was pretty good, and then, after a great leg, Coleman to Bracy was a little tenuous, and that was all that 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist at 200 meters just put Canada in the lead, and try as Marvin Bracy, World Champs silver medalist indoors at the 60m and outdoors at the 100 meters, tried, de Grasse was not going to be caught.

Noah Lyles summed it up best. He made it clear that the U.S. can and will do better.

Canada took the win. We have my comments on audio and the fine NBC broadcast on the Men’s 4x100m relay!
