This is Sam Fariss’s last column on the World Champs. I liked her comments on the final day and how 

the US team performed. It is a good time to reconsider how well the World Champs went. 

Team USA blows past other nations in the medal count

Not only were the individual performances from Team USA at the World Athletics Championships seemingly defiant of what is humanly possible, but the team as a whole went above and beyond in earning medals for its country.

Having the championships on home soil must have given the Americans even more of an edge over the competition as they brought home a total of 33 medals – a world record composed of 13 golds, 9 silvers, and 11 bronzes.

“It was definitely a help to have a home crowd here,” said Bryce Deadmon.

Deadmon was a part of the gold-medal-winning men’s 4×400 team.

With so much young talent throughout all of the country, it is certain that the United States will continue to have great success in the track and field world. Next year, 2023, is the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. In 2024, the Olympics will be in Paris, France.

In 2025, the World Championships will be held in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2026 will be the first time that there are not global champions in five years,

In 2027, we do not know where the World Champs, but there is a good argument for a city in the U.S.

It doesn’t hurt that the 2028 Olympic Games will be on home soil in Los Angeles; just give them the extra boost once again.

“That gave me extra energy,” said Abby Steiner on being able to hear the cheers for her team at the championships. “It just made it feel at home.”

Steiner helped to secure two gold medals for Team USA in both the 4×100 and the 4×400 relays.

One athlete that they will be missing at the Paris Games or the LA Games will be Allyson Felix, who came out of retirement just a few days after completing her athletic career to help the women’s 4×400 relay qualify for the finals.

“I was well on my way to retirement,” said Felix. “I had no plans to be back here for the rest of the meet. But things happen. I felt good… It’s really set the team up to go after the title.”
