In 2012, at the London GP, Christine Ohuruoghu won the race in driving rain, coming from behind. I had forgotten just how good the British long sprinter really is. I sure hope that none of her competitors at the Europeans underestimate her, or the only global title that alludes her will be hers in Zurich.
Christine Ohuruoghu has won the 2007 and 2013 World Championships at 400 meters. She has won the gold in the Beijing Olympics. In London, she won the silver. And in Moscow, in 2013, she took gold once again.

The European Champs are the only title that has evaded her. Perhaps because she has not run it before.
Christine said of her first round on 12 August: ” I didn’t feel fresh but this is my first European Championships so I really want to finally get a medal in this event. I just want to do my best in the final and see what happens. I need to draw a line under this season and finish it on a high note.”
Christine Ohuruoghu confounds basic physics. When most 400 meter runners are gasping for air, Christine starts racing! Her last hundred meters is bold, driven and a joy to watch. Ms. Ohuruoghu runs the last straight like none of her competitors and will nip them at the finish with a drive that melts the track.
How will she fare in the final?
We will have to wait and see!
And so will her competitors!
