Great running depth, 3 World leads
PALO ALTO (USA, May 2): Payton Jordan Invitational was the real running paradise with many top results, among them three World leads in men 10 000 m and steeple and women 5000 m. In steeple Stanley Kebenei of Kenya 8:23.93 WL over Dan Huling 8:24.61 and Canadian Alex Genest 8:24.84. In the 10 000 m Briton Andy Vernon 27:42.62 WL over Ben True 27:43.79 and Australians Ben St. Lawrence 27:44.24 and David McNeill 27:45.01. Great depth also in the 5000 m with 6 runners under 13:20. Winner was Mexican Juan Luis Barrios 13:15.71 over Garrett Heath 13:16.31, Diego Estrada 13:17.30, Briton Tom Farrell 13:17.87, Riley Masters 13:17.97 and Matt Hughes 13:19.56. Seventh Jamaican Kemoy Campbell 13:20.39, great national record. Lopez Loming was 9th 13:21.32 and Henrik Ingebrigtsen 11th 13:27.10. Also to note 800 m by Boris Berian 1:45.30 PB over Brannon Kidder 1:45.58. Ryan Hill won the main race of the 1500 m 3:38.79, but overall fastest Chad Noelle in race two 3:38.35. In women races great World lead for Kenyan Sally Kipyego 14:57.44 in the 5000 m over another Kenyan Betsy Saina 15:00.48 and Nicole Tully 15:05.58. To note Dutch Maureen Koster 5th 15:07.73 and Briton Stephanie Twell 8th 15:13.82. Excellent depth also in the 10 000 m with in total 15 athletes going under 32 minutes. Dutch Susan Kuijken won in 31:31.97 (her track debut at the distance) over Ethiopian Buze Diriba 31.33.27 and another Dutch Jip Vastenburg 31:35.48 European U23 record and Japanese Yuka Takashima 31:37.32. Also under 31:40 US runners Emily Sisson 31:38.03 and Emily Infeld 31:38.71. Ines Melchor from Peru won the second race in huge national record 31:56.62. Courtney Frerichs 9:32.12 and Coleen Quigley 9:33.63 were top two in steeple and Chrishuna Williams topped the 800 m in 2:01.61. Also to note two British hammer wins for Nick Miller 76.97 PB and Sophie Hitchon 69.20.
