CHICAGO (USA): Olympic triathlon champion Gwen Jorgensen has been added to the elite women’s field for the Chicago Marathon on 7 October, informs organisers. Jorgensen joins a field which includes US teammates Jordan Hasay (2:20:57) and Amy Cragg (2:21:42), as well as Ethiopians Roza Dereje (2:19:17), Birhane Dibaba (2:19:51) and Shure Demise (2:20:59), Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei (2:20:13) and Japan’s Yuki Ando (2:21:36).
RunBlogRun opines: Gwen Jorgensen is the real thing. I remember asking Gwen after her 2:41 marathon in NYC if she was happy with that performance. You could see her brain working. Watching Gwenn run the 10,000m at Stanford (via video) and her video series, it is obvious that Gwen is a unique athlete. Chicago Marathon will be a big deal for Gwen. Under the watchful eye of Jerry Schumacher, Jorgenson will be prepared to race in the Windy City on 7 October.
