Fartlek is the secret sauce for some athletes. As one gets fitter, fartlek can become much more intense. I understand that one of Chris Solinsky’s tough workouts was an intense fartlek workout, which helped him gain fitness before he set the AR at 10,000m. Use it and enjoy it. It is supposed to sting a bit.
