Blanka Vlasic got 2010 going well with a nice 2.01 clearance today in Trinec, Czech Republic. Ivan Ukhov continues his superb jumping (clearing 2.37m last weekend), clearing 2.34 here today. Both Vlasic and Ukhov entertained the crowds with meet records (this was part of the sixth Moravian HJ tour)…

VLASIC 201 AND UKHOV 234
TRINEC (CZE, Jan 26): Another special evening for high jump meetings with music. The 18th Beskydska latka which was second and final leg of 6th Moravia High Jump Tour offered despite freezing cold outside excellent warm atmosphere and great results in the packed hall by more than 2000 people. First World champion Blanka Vlasic started her season with first time 201 clearance. It was the first two meters of the year and meet record. First miss came at 203 and although she tried and had good attempts it did not work. She gave to the public first meet record with 198 nice attempt. Vlasic was satisfied afterwards: „It is always tough with first meet so I m satisfied with two meters. I have many weeks of hard training behind me and I needed to work a lot on my technique. But it will come, here at the end I was tired,“ she was quoted. Her next meet is in Goteborg on February 2. US Chaunte Howard with two 192 results was the overall tour winner. Ivan Ukhov did not jump that easy as in Hustopece but still was excellent. His first miss came at 232 and again in second try went over new meet record 234. He improved so his own mark from last year. It is also second best mark of the season. He then tried at new world lead 238 but was not as close as in Hustopece at 241. „With such two results I must be satisfied with my season begin. I was very tired here, but the season is only starting. Next goals, now some rest, then I must qualify at our nationals and if that works than Doha,“ Ukhov said. He was also clear overall tour winner. US Dusty Jonas after six first attempt clearances had first failures at 232 but mastered that height in third, what is his new indoor PB.
