Diamond Foods owns Emerald Nuts. Emerald Nuts has sponsored the Across the Bay 12k race for eight years now, and just renewed for 2011! The management team at Rhodyco, who have been around Bay Area running for centuries, have created strong events and renewed sponsorship in this day and age is something to celebrate! Congrats to Dave Rhody and Kathy Henning at Rhodyco, in their 27th year of event management!

SAN
FRANCISCO (August 13th 2010):  RhodyCo Productions of San Francisco
proudly announces that, for the eighth year in a row, Diamond Foods,
Inc. will title RhodyCo’s flagship event, ‘Emerald Across the Bay
12K’.  In January of 2004 when Diamond first took the title position,
the headline was: “Healthy Nuts join ‘the Best Bridge Run in America.'”
As Diamond’s Emerald brand grew so has the relationship with the annual
race from Sausalito to San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. One
Runner’s World magazine issue named the Across the Bay 12K ‘the Best Bridge Run in America.’

About the renewal, Michael J. Mendes, Diamond Foods Chairman, President
& CEO said: “Diamond Foods is involved in sponsoring running events
through out the country, promoting our better for you products under
the Emerald, Pop Secret and Kettle brands.  RhodyCo Productions, led by
Dave Rhody, always does an exceptional job of facilitating an
outstanding race experience for all runners who participate, and we are
proud to associate our brands and sample products with the Emerald
Across the Bay12K.”

            From top
ranked U.S. distance runners to fitness enthusiasts who have made
running part of their lifestyle, participants at every level are
attracted to the unique challenge of the Emerald 12K course. The
point-to-point course features a two hundred and twenty foot climb from
sea level at Horseshoe Cove in East Fort Baker up to the north end of
the Golden Gate Bridge, a sharp cloverleaf turn coming off the Bridge,
wind and surf spray at Fort Point, the flat straight-aways of Crissy
Field and the Marina and a final hill up and over Fort Mason to the
finish at Aquatic Park.

            The 2011
Emerald Across the Bay 12K, scheduled for Sunday March 20th, will be
the 400th major fitness event produced by RhodyCo Productions. Emerald
Across the Bay 12K, born on April 1st 1984 as the ‘Houlihan’s to
Houlihan’s 8 Mile Bay Race’ had an auspicious debut. The original
course, a reverse of the one adopted in 1987, was from Fisherman’s
Wharf in San Francisco to downtown Sausalito. 2,000 finishers were
ferried back to Fisherman’s Wharf for a party at Houlihan’s Restaurant
where 49ers quarterback, Joe Montana, still celebrating his first Super
Bowl victory, presented the awards. In the ensuing twenty-seven years
of race production, 1.4 million people have run, biked or walked in
RhodyCo events.

                        “We
are very fortunate to continue partnering with Diamond Foods on the run
that launched RhodyCo Productions twenty-seven years ago,” said Rhody
after the recent title sponsorship renewal.

            Since the
race’s inception in 1984, the more recently named Emerald Across the
Bay 12K has benefited Edgewood Center for Children and Families. The
Edgewood kids train as runners to help them set and achieve goals and
to raise their self-esteem. They run the final mile of the race. Edgewood Center for Children and Families
is a nonprofit that helps children overcome severe challenges like
abuse, neglect, mental illness, and family crisis. Edgewood provides
essential services to more than 5,000 San Francisco Bay Area children
and families each year.
