2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships – Women
The battle over 8 kilometers for senior women never stopped. Shalane Flanagan, the top U.S. runner and first non-African to win a medal since 2002, fought hard the entire way, going from seventh to third in the final kilometer. Flanagan finished third with Molly Huddle in 18th, Magdelena Lewy in 19th and Blake Russell in 20th place. The U.S. women’s team took third in the team race as well, with the best cross country team in many years!
