Bernard Lagat is one of the most accomplished distance runners in the world. In 2011, Bernard won the silver medal in a nail biting battle over the 5,000 meter distance in Daegu, at the World Championships.
But, this is 2012, and Bernard Lagat focused on winning the 3,000m in Istanbul, at the 2012 World Indoor champs. Running with the leaders, Bernard Lagat used a 25.9 for the last two hundred meters to take the gold over Edwin Soi, Eliud Kipchoge and Mo Farah. In this case, Mo was fourth.
RBR did a quick interview with Bernard at the Pre press conference,,and here is what he had to say:
1. What will your schedule be like this summer?
Lagat: “Between now and the Olympics nothing but the longer distances. That is why, at Pre, I will run the mile. Next week, I will run the 1,500 meters, at the adidas Grand Prix….Not to have any expectations tomorrow, I just want to run fast. “
2. How do decide where to kick from in races?
Lagat: “I have to be careful in a race like this where there are fast guys. They will run crazy pace, like 2:49, basically, I prepare myself to run the last lap faster than the others. “
3. After the trials, what will you do?
Lagat: “Assuming that I makemthe team at 5,000 meters, I will run 5,000 meters and 3,000m races. After the miles, I will run longer stuff, focusing on the 5,000 meters, at Paris, and probably London. “
