Usain Bolt came into this season less than perfect. With three real weeks of training right before London, Usain Bolt took Yohan Blake’s wake up call at the trials and worked himself into shape, winning the 100m in an Olympic record of 9.63, running 19.32 for 200m and anchoring a blazing 36.84 for the 4 x 100 m relay. Bolt tells us that he is a legend. That he is.

In this interview, one sees, in french and english, the loose and fun style of the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt.

Usain Bolt – 22.08.2012 – 14 :45-15:10 (English)

Qu: You said that becoming a legend was one of your goals. Now you are. What next?

A: Yes, I reached my goal of becoming a legend. I worked hard for it.

Qu: IOC President Rogge said that you are not a legend but an icon. Do you see a difference?

A: Mr. Rogge made a somewhat different statement, but whatever, everybody is allowed his/her opinion. As said, I made myself a legend.

Qu: At this point in your career, do you feel like living your real life or in a movie?

A: My real life! I continue to do things as before.

Qu: What are your goals for the end of the season?

A: Having reached my goals this season, I want to finish the season uninjured so as to be able to prepare the next season in the best condition.

Qu: In view of your early and several participations, is Athletissima a special meeting for you? And with the excellent track, is a World Record on the cards?

A: Athletissima is a great meeting indeed and I am happy to be here again: usually great weather, great food, great public, one of the best tracks. When the conditions are right, a record is definitely possible. But right now my priorities are to put on a good show and to finish the season uninjured.

Qu: What about the curved track, does it allow you to run faster?

A: The track is not fully curved, it is different from most tracks. As for gaining time, it is hard to say, it depends on so many conditions.

Qu: You won’t run against Yohan Blake in the last 3 meetings of the season. Are you avoiding him?

A: No, there is no avoidance. We will run against each other in the future again.

Qu: Do you have a souvenir from Jamaica with you when staying abroad?

A: No. Except the sun from Jamaica! I just miss home and my own bed.

Qu: You are the fastest man on 200m. But Yohan Blake is improving fast.

A: I have reached my goals this season. Yohan is a great sprinter and should he run faster than me this season, it’s ok.

Qu: (Fellow Jamaican sprinter,) Warren Weir has done well recently. Did you expect it?

A: I didn’t expect it at the beginning of the season but then I saw Warren progress. He has a great heart and is a great athlete.

Qu: Will we see you at the World Championship in Moscow in 2013 and, if yes, on what distances?

A: You will see me there! As for the distances, I don’t know yet.

Qu: Do you plan to run the 400m in the next two years?

A: No.

Qu: In 2012 Jamaica celebrated 50 years of independence. It got invited to the Notting Hill Carnival in London. Will you attend?

A: 50 years of independence, yes, it is amazing, Jamaicans are happy. I won’t be able to attend the Carnival though.

Qu: Yohan Blake received a proposition to play cricket in Australia. Did you get one too?

A: Yes! But I need to practice first!
