Despite resting some of its top runners, Dartmouth won the 100th running of the New England Championships. A fitting victory for The Big Green, which won the first NE title back in 1912. (The meet wasn’t held in 1918)
American International’s Glarius Rop (9th), looking for his fourth consecutive victory, was upstaged by teammate and fellow Kenyan, Mike Biwott, who captured the 100th running of the Men’s New England’s.
The first individual winner of the New England’s was Norman Taber of Brown. Taber was the bronze medalist in the 1500-meters at the 1912 Olympics and set a world record in the mile in 1915(4:12.6).
