Galen Rupp ran 13:01.26 for the 5,000 meters on January 16, 2014. This was an American record, and is the fastest 5,000 meters ever run in the month of January. He knew he was fit, as the training had been going well. On January 25, 2014, Galen Rupp came back and ran 8:07.41 for the two mile (hitting the mile in 4:01.6) and setting a second AR.
