Wlodarczyk over Adams
MOUNTAIN VIEW (USA): Hammer World record holder Anita Wlodarczyk is the Track and Field News Women Athlete of the Year. She is the first ever hammer thrower to win. She got 297 points ahead of IAAF Female Athlete of the Year Valerie Adams 286 points. The 33-member international panel gave Adams 15 No. 1 votes to 13 for WÅ‚odarczyk, but the World Record-setting hammer thrower did better in the lower places. Third is triple jump star Caterine Ibarguen 274 and fourth discus star Sandra Perkovic with 203 points. Top four places for technical events, that never happened in this ranking. Best runner as 5th Kaliese Spencer with 160 ahead of Genzebe Dibaba 149 and another technician Barbora Spotakova 143. Last 3 places in top ten for Eunice Sum 60, Dafne Schippers 57 and Dawn Harper-Nelson 50. Overall, 17 different women received votes. Only 3 athletes repeated last year top ten (Adams, Perkovic, Ibarguen).

(Editor’s note: Track & Field News is the Bible of the Sport. Respect it. Worship it, Subscribe to it. So, when the team at TFN gives Ms. Wlodarczyk, a hammer thrower of much note, and Ms. Adams, a shot putter of much note, the top two positions, I am all smiles. The sport is Track AND Field! And then, Caterine Ibarguen and Sandra Perkovic follow! Totally cool! Nice job to our friends in Mountain View, California! )
