Here are some of the highlights from around the world from this past weekend in athletics, courtesy of EME News. 




INDOOR RESULTS

SANDNES (NOR, Jan 18): In the regional championships 800 m Ingebrigtsen runners competed in the 800 m. Filip won in 1:49.95 (indoor PB) over European Champion Henrik 1:50.00 and third Jakob in 1:56.54 clocked national U16 best.

SABADELL (ESP, Jan 17): Italian Fabio Cerutti won here the 60 m in 6.76 and Miguel Angel Sancho cleared 224 in the high jump.

SABADELL (ESP, Jan 18): In a special federation 1500 m organised race Marc Alcala won in 3:43.51 (indoor PB) ahead of Llorenc Sales 3:44.49. 

LEVERKUSEN (GER, Jan 18): Top women pole vault at regional championships as Katharina Bauer cleared 460 (tried at 472) and Victoria von Eynatten 450, for both personal bests and European Indoors standard. 

CHEMNITZ (GER, Jan 18): After sensational 8 meters long jump achieved Max Hess on Sunday also indoor personal best in triple jump 16.10.  German champion Kristin Gierisch achieved 13.60 but then injured herself.

SAN DIEGO (USA, Jan 17): Italian record holder Eleonora Giorgi tested herself in California with 12:06 in the 3000 m walk on the track.

PADOVA (ITA, Jan 18): Only 15 years old Marta Zenoni improved here Italian youth 1500 m indoor record to 4:23.36. The old mark lasted for 24 years (4:32.50 by Giovanna Tessitore in 1991). 

NOVI SAD (SRB, Jan 17): World and European long jump medalist Ivana Spanovic opened here with a 60 m win in 7.47. Her PB is 7.41.

BRZESZCZE (POL, Jan 18): Top shape for young sprinter Ewa Swoboda (will be 18 in July) who improved in 60 m heats here Polish junior indoor record to 7.30. She confirmed the improvement in the final with 7.34 win. Her previous best from last indoor season was 7.46.

HUDDINGE (SWE, Jan 18): Good start into the season by World Youth Champion Irene Ekelund with 23.62 over the 200 m.

GOTEBORG (SWE, Jan 18): Malin Dahlstrom cleared 430 in the pole vault, her best since summer break.

SHEFFIELD (GBR, Jan 18): Katarina Johnson Thompson won the North England long jump title on Sunday with good 663 for a satisfying weekend for her. She may do a low key shot competition before the British Champs in four weeks time.  Pole vaulter Adam Hague won the senior title with 545 and another 17 year old, Tom Somers, won the junior 200 m in 21.27.





OUTDOOR RESULTS

TERRASSA (ESP, Jan 18): Moroccan Abderrahim El Jaafari won the 16th edition of the half marathon here in 1:03:56. Second multiple national champion Carles Castillejo 1:04:05. 

KERKRADE (NED, Jan 18): Khalid Choukoud won the Dutch CC title here in 33:12 over 10.5 km. Second Jesper van der Wielen 33:21 and third Belgian Hamid El Mouaziz 33:26. In women 7.4 km win for Ayele Zewdnesh of Ethiopia 26:20 ahead of Ruth van der Meijden who won the title in 26:34 and third Kenyan Lucy Macharia 27:06.

CARDIFF (GBR, Jan 18): At the second stage of the Cross Challenge in Cardiff Adam Hickey and Lily Partridge ran out dominant winners in the senior races. In men category second Dean Lacy and third Dewi Griffiths ahead of Jonathan Hopkins. Behind Partridgs second Sarah Astin and third Imogen Ainsworth.

LE MANS (FRA, Jan 18): Bahraini runners were the winners of the 34th edition of the cross Ouest-France Pays de la Loire, informs event website. Tigist Gashaw the 2013 World Youth Champion who looks to have switched the nationality from Ethiopia to Bahrain as the best woman at 6.3 km clocked 21:37 ahead of Eritrean Nazret Weldu 21:43 and Ethiopian Bekelech Daba 21:43. Fourth was Algerian Souad Ait Salem 21:52 with Claire Perraux as best French just behind her also 21:52. Sixth place for European marathon champion Christelle Daunay 21:57. Aweke Ayalew who also runs for Bahrain dominated thee men 10.4 km race in 31:27 over Birhanu Yetamaw also Bahrain 31:29 and third Kenyan Victor Chumo 31:33. Fourth another Kenyan Nicholas Manza 31:41 and fifth best French Hassan Chahdi 31:43.

TORRE DE LAGO (ITA, Jan 18): Kenyan Bernard Kipsang won the 11th Puccini Half Marathon here with 1:05:16.

PHOENIX (USA, Jan 18): Benson Cheruiyot won the half marathon at the P.F. Chang´s Rock and Roll Marathon in 1:04:15 over Ryan Hall 1:04:16 and Canadian Dylan Wykes 1:05:29. Amy Hastings was the best female in 1:12:04. In the marathon the winners Roosevelt Cook 2:24:41 and Ziola Gomez 2:46:00.

NAPLES (USA, Jan 18): Cleophas Ngetich won the Naples Daily News Half Marathon in 1:02:42 course record ahead of Kimutai Cheruiyot 1:03:05 and Tyler McCandless 1:03:14 PB. Official results are showing Kenyan Lilian Mariita as best woman and overall fifth with very fast 1:06:32. EME NEWS is trying to verify this. Her best so far is 1:11:28 from last year. Media reports are saying that the female winner was Zipporah Chebet who is in official results second best woman in 1:18:58.

SAN DIEGO (USA, Jan 17)
