The postal competition was one of my favorite events each year in high school. I remember reading about the winners each year in the mid 1970s. The simplicity of the two mile run, eight laps on the track, when one is very fit and ready to race.

HOKA ONE ONE has brought this event back to our sport. I encourage all high school coaches into considering adding this event into their season. A two mile a couple of weeks before the championships would be a great addition to the season.

Or, at the end of your season, let er rip.

GOLETA, CALIF. (September 29, 2015) — With only 10 weeks remaining in the HOKA ONE ONE® (a division of Deckers Brands NYSE: DECK) Postal Nationals competition, high school teams from across the nation continue to vie for the championship title. With 265 teams competing in 18 meets so far, the Hopkins High School (Minnesota) boys and girls lead the rankings.

Reviving a tradition from the 1970’s, the HOKA ONE ONE Postal Nationals allows high school cross country teams from every state to compete against each other in a timed two-mile race on the track. To receive a ranking, teams average and then submit the time of their top five finishers.

While the Hopkins boys take over the top spot in the current rankings, Wayzata (Minnesota), last year’s runner-up, sits in third place trailing The Woodlands XC (Texas) and their in-state rivals at Hopkins. Last year’s boys champion team, Daniel Boone High School (Tennessee), currently ranks sixth. But there is still time for new and returning athletes to make their mark.

Flagship events are held across the U.S. and feature top competition and numerous heats. Four competitions remain:

• November 11 at Kingwood Park High School (Texas)

• November 13 at Santa Rosa Junior College (Northern California)

• November 20 at Harden Valley Academy (Tennessee)

• November 21 at Reagan High School Winston-Salem (North Carolina)

“We are encouraged and excited by the growing number of teams that are participating in the Postal Nationals,” says HOKA ONE ONE President Wendy Yang. “Supporting young runners is a priority for us, and we are proud to keep the Postal Nationals tradition alive as it continues to gain traction and attract top athletes.”

Coaches are encouraged to join a Flagship event, host a local Postal Nationals event, or hold a time trial to submit team times. By participating in any Postal Nationals event or team time trial and uploading team results to the Postal Nationals website, coaches are eligible to receive one free pair of HOKA ONE ONE shoes. All information, including rankings, can be found at www.hokaoneonepostalnationals.com.
