Sally Kipyego had a tough NYC Marathon in 2015. After her win in RNR San Jose Half Marathon, she told @runblogrun that she wanted to do well in New York. Here is Sabrina Yohannes’ feature on Sally’s desires to win, a few days before New York.
I was posting this race at 2 AM on Sunday morning, when I fell asleep. Upon reading the piece, and watching the face, I thought our readers would be fascinated at just how dialed in Sally was on her race and her desire to perform well.
Staying in control, Sally Kipyego began her dash for home just past the 14 mile mark. With less than 800 meters to go, she looked back and saw a hard charging Molly Huddle, closing on her. Sally Kipyego put her foot down and took the second place on the podium, in 2:28:01. Molly Huddle came in in 2:28:13. Great races for two of our favorites, who pushed each other at Payton Jordan a few years ago over the 10,000 meters.
Special thanks to Sabrina Yohannes for her thoughtful column on Sally Kipyego.
