The West Regional of the FootLocker is the final regional in the FootLocker food chain. It is a brutal regional, with tough competition. And, yet, even with only a week from Nationals, West athletes tend to do quite well. Always a conundrum.

Claudia Lane of Malibu, California, merely a sophomore, won the West Regional in 17:21. The Malibu High School runner won by 35 seconds! Kearan Nelson, from Central Valley High school in Spokane Valley, Washington, was second in 17:56. Third place was Alexandra Beitia, a senior from Roseville, California's Granite High School. Two returnees in the girls race were Kate Hunter, in 4th (Provo, Utah), and Jordan Oakes, (Seattle, Washington), who finished fifth place.
