BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Stacy Dragila, the 2000 Olympic pole vault champion, will be an ambassador for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham on March 1-4, the American announced on Instagram. She will make appearances at UK schools for two weeks as part her role.
RunBlogRun opines:: I love this woman. Stacy Dragila was the original pole vault goddess. She reinvented the event, and her pole vault wars were amazing with Isinbayeva, Stevanova, my gosh! One of my last times on NPR, just before I began doing some call ins with BBC, was about this magnifiscent woman. Stacy Dragila was an amazing athlete and even did a decathlon. And what fun was she to interview, great quotes and she knew the power of the media to build an event. Like the women’s pole vault now? Stacy Dragila dealt with some of the women track haters in her day. She did it with class and style.
That World Indoor Birmingham is using her as an ambassador is awesome!
