Saucony Kilkenny, $65 Spike/$55 Spikeless

We are posting a few of our past season’s cross country racing shoes, as this coming weekend is huge for cross country sales. The four shoes that we are posting today are great shoes for the 550,000 high school boys and girls about to race this coming 2018-19 season. We will also post new shoe reviews shortly.

This is the review of the Saucony Kilkenny , a 2 fine cross country shoes from Saucony (and two of their most popular). Cregg Weinmann has reviewed footwear and apparel for California Track & Running News since the mid 1990s, and for the RunningNetwork since 1998. If you would like to see this review on Running Product Reviews, please go to: Saucony Kilkenny, $65 Spike/ $55 Spikeless. At RunBlogRun, our goal is help you find the perfect shoe for you. Our suggestions: always visit your local running stores at end of day, take a clean pair of running socks, and try on five to six different brands, and jog around in them. Real running stores allow you to check the right show for you. For more reviews, go to www.runningproductreviews.com.

The Kilkenny is the oldest cross country model in the Saucony lineup, now in its 7th version. The platform retains its heritage – and why not? It has been effective from its introduction because it is a sleek and efficient racing shoe.
The upper is a tough closed mesh with lightweight fused overlays. A padded tongue offers a soft feel against the foot with a very thin layer of protection – really designed more to keep the wet and loose portion of the cross country course out of the shoe. The midsole is a full-length wedge of foam as much for cushion as it is to smooth the run over the roughness of the course. Four spikes along the perimeter add their grip to the effort. The rubber outersole features a zigzag pattern to grip the course, whether hard or soft, depending on the weather. The performance, fit, and price make it a solid cross country choice.
