FRANKFURT (GER, Oct 27): Valary Aiyabei survived a first half of 67:42 to win the Frankfurt Marathon in a course record of 2:19:10 ahead of Ethiopians Megertu Kebede (2:21:10) and reigning champion Meskerem Assefa (2:22:11) who fell 10 metres before the finish-line. Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, who was second at 40km, faded to fourth in 2:23:11. Stephanie Twell was eighth in a Scottish record of 2:26:40 with Katharina Steinruck tenth on home soil in a 2:27:26 PB. In the men’s race Ethiopians Fikre Tefera (2:07:08) and Dawit Wolde (2:07:10) took a one-two with debutant Aweke Ayalew from Bahrain third in 2:07:12. Maru Teferi was sixth in an Israeli record of 2:08:09 with Italy’s Daniele Meucci eighth in 2:10:52.
