Volvo Cars Named Official Vehicle of the TCS New York City Marathon

Partnership will include events throughout the year and the NYRR Virtual Racing series

New York, October 28, 2019 –New York Road Runners (NYRR), the world’s premier community running organization, and Volvo Cars, today announced that they are teaming up on a three-year partnership. Volvo Cars will be named the Official Vehicle of the TCS New York City Marathon. Volvo Cars will serve as the official lead vehicles of the marathon utilizing the Volvo XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid to drive ahead of the runners in all race divisions to ensure safety and clearance of the roads.

As part of the partnership, Volvo Cars will have an experiential space at the TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from October 31 through November 2. Volvo Cars will utilize the opportunity as a display to showcase their XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid model.

Additionally, Volvo Cars will also be the Official Vehicle for other NYRR marquee events including the United Airlines NYC Half and the Popular Brooklyn Half, the largest half marathon in the country.

“Running is a passion of many Volvo owners and we are happy to support New York Road Runners. We want Volvo to be the choice of vehicle for runners across the country,” said Rick Bryant, head of Sales for Volvo Car USA, “We look forward to being the official vehicle of the TCS New York City Marathon and welcome participants to our Manhattan store (11th Ave. at 43rd St.) where runners can have their picture taken with the Volvo XC60 pace car featuring their time on the race.”

Volvo Cars will also serve as the presenting partner of the NYRR Virtual Racing Powered by Strava. NYRR Virtual Racing has transformed running by bringing the running community together and allowing runners anywhere in the world to run a race at their convenience. More than 77,000 runners participate in these newly launched races. Both organizations will work together to create marketing programs across Volvo Car’s network of retail locations. Additionally, a dedicated Volvo Cars virtual race will be developed.
