Laviai Nielson and her sister, Lina Nielsen, are part of the British 4x400m squads. They are tough athletes and the success of the Brit relay squads are one of the big successes in UK athletics. The following piece was a fun piece on Ms. Nielsen. She used 5ks to help her deal with not making the final in the 400m in Doha.

LONDON (GBR): Laviai Nielsen has said that running for fun at weekends in 5km parkruns has helped her to get over the disappointment of missing out on a place in the 400m final at the World Championships in Doha, informs the Daily Telegraph. “It was more of a mental thing because I wasn’t ready to go back into running and I just needed to run without thinking about times or distance or targets or anything like that. So I literally just showed up at 9am on a Saturday and just ran with feeling and rhythm. I actually really enjoyed it. It was nice to be surrounded by a community of runners,” she said. Nielsen is aiming to make the Olympic final and win a medal at the European Championships in 2020.
