Italy or Poland?
Those are the choices on the 2024 European Athletics Outdoor Championships, that will be decided on Tuesday, 10 November 2020. Both are good sites and sanctuaries of European Athletics.
Rome vs Katowice-Silesia
LAUSANNE (SUI): On Tuesday afternoon, the European Athletics Council will decide about the venue for the 2024 European Championships. After Goteborg and Minsk did not continue with their bids, two remained. Rome with legendary Olympic Stadium and Katowice-Silesia bid from Poland with Slaski Stadium in Chorzow. Italy twice staged the championships before, first edition 1934 in Torino and 1974 in Rome. For both Italian past events it could be special anniversary, 90 years since first edition and 50 years since the Rome edition. Poland never hosted this event but was second in medals ranking at last European Championships 2018 in Berlin. Both delegations will do their presentations online, Polish as first. Italian bid will offer some special locations, like shot put in front of Colloseum, race walk to start at the Constatine Arch and the course at Terme di Caracalla, finish of half-marathon at the St. Peter´s square. Poland offers high technology stadium, one of the best in Europe for athletics and great cooperation with regional government and related financial guarantees and stability.
