This book should on all coaches’ book shelves! Jeff Benjamin sent us this one!

Learning From The Best!

The Science of Speed – The Art Of The Sprint

Tom Tellez

Carl Lewis

Christopher J Arellano, PhD

“Quality not quantity”

Throughout the years, this mantra has been applied to various facets of our Sport, whether it’s running, jumping or throwing.

However, quality does not substitute for time given on numerous training techniques and philosophies which are espoused by many coaches either.

So, if a dedicated sprint/distance running coach (and beyond!) wishes to combine BOTH the quality and the quantity, then “The Science of Speed” would not only be a good start, but the bedrock upon which to start this kind of program.

After all, you can count on a legendary coach and athlete to guide you!

Coach Tom Tellez has been an institution at the University of Houston, where his Sprinting and Jumping empire is still going strong, going on 5 decades now. His list of NCAA, World and Olympic Champions coached under his tutelage goes on and on.

Yet his greatest champion is co-author Carl Lewis!

Sports Illustrated named Lewis “Olympian of the 20th Century,” while the International Olympic Committee named him its “Sportsman of the 20th Century.”

A winner of 9(!) Olympic and 8(!) World Championship Gold medals (also the only athlete to win the Olympic Gold 4 times over 16 years in the Long Jump) Lewis is currently coaching at Houston as well, producing many top collegiate sprinters who’ve started to scratch the pinnacle of the World and Olympic Championship levels!

Replete with techniques, philosophies, mechanics and various techniques it’s a no-brainer that this book shouldn’t just be on the shelves of every Track & Field Coach, but EVERY Sports coach if they wish to improve the power and speed of their athletes. The book takes what some may view as a complicated topic and transforms it into logical and practical concepts which can be used by everyone!

Whether it’s the novice youth or a world-class athlete, “The Science of Speed” is a must have for ANY sports athlete and coach who wishes to fulfill their potential.

It’s Kind of like getting basketball tips from Lebron James and you wouldn’t want to pass that up right?

So why not learn Speed from the BEST as well?
