The RNR San Diego is where it all began in 1998. At the Running Network, we have worked with the iconic series, through several owners, and several running booms and kind of running booms.

I recall being in San Diego in 2014 to watch a quite elite race with Dan Cruz, then PR guy (the best) and Matthew Turnbull (elite coordinator, again, quite good).

Last weekend, the RNR San Jose, the fastest half in California (or nearly, was held). Laura Thweatt won the women’s elite in 1:10.25 and Matthew Baxter won the men’s elite in 1:02.25.

The good thing is that, is that runners want to race. The key now is to give your runners the best event that you can!

Good luck to all running RNR San Diego!

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 8, 2021) – The much-anticipated return of the Heineken 0.0 Rock ‘n’ Roll® Running Series San Diego is set to take over the streets of America’s Finest City in just a few short weeks. Race weekend will kick off with a new 5K course through Balboa Park on Saturday, Oct. 23, followed by the half marathon and marathon on Sunday, Oct. 24. With a distance for everyone, runners and walkers alike are able to register for the Heineken 0.0 Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series San Deigo event by visiting www.runrocknroll.com/san-diego-register.

Leading runners through San Diego’s most iconic neighborhoods, the Sunday races take off from the historic start line at Balboa Park and travels through Hillcrest, North Park, and Normal Heights before the marathon breaks from the half marathon just past mile 8. The marathon route also runs through Mission Hills and Old Town before both distances finish downtown.

This year’s finisher medals are inspired by the neighborhoods on the course, featuring the signs and landmarks that will welcome runners to each community. The marathon medal design is based on Hillcrest, while the half marathon medal represents North Park and the 5K medal design has the famous California Tower and Dome.

“San Diego earned its title as ‘America’s Finest City’ by curating an iconic collection of neighborhoods and communities, each with their own personalities,” said Race Director, Meryl Leventon. “We can’t wait to welcome runners back to enjoy the ultimate foot tour of San Diego and introduce a new 5K course through Balboa Park.”

Live bands, cheer teams and supportive aid stations will line the marathon and half marathon courses, while encouraging runners to the finish line. New entertainment for the 2021 race includes local Drag Queens as well as Anchorman and Top Gun impersonators. Race finishers, along with friends and family, will celebrate at the Finish Line Festival at Waterfront Park with local music and entertainment.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series has developed a series of comprehensive Safe Return to Running operating principles prepared in accordance with industry standards for open air participation sporting events including standards from World Health Organization (WHO) and guidance from the IRONMAN Group Global Medical Advisory Board. These Ready to Rock: Safe Return to Running Guidelines empower everyone involved to focus on a safe return to running. With attention to density reduction, touchpoint minimization, enhanced hygiene, screening, and education, as well as self-awareness, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series will continue to deliver a rockin’ participant experience with necessary adjustments so that the participants can race safely, race smart, and race their best.
