It’s not all in the stats, but it is definitely important. The TCS NYC Marathon, version 51 in the year 2022, is back to full capacity! Great races in all categories! 

TCS New York City Marathon Returned to Full Capacity

 

New York, November 7, 2022 – The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6 returned to full capacity for the first time since 2019 with 47,839 total finishers. Below are some highlights and statistical information from the 2022 race.

The Field

Note: All finisher numbers and results are unofficial pending race results review. Final official results will be released later this month. This data is based on registration information provided by individual runners.

  • 47,839 finishers
  • 26,608 men’s finishers, 21,186 women’s finishers, 45 non-binary finishers
  • 15,933 international finishers
  • 131 countries represented
  • 50 states plus the District of Columbia represented

Winners

  • Men’s open division winner: Evans Chebet, Kenya, 2:08:41
  • Women’s open division winner: Sharon Lokedi, Kenya, 2:23:23
  • Top American open division man: Scott Fauble (9th), 2:13:35
  • Top American open division woman: Aliphine Tuliamuk (7th), 2:26:18
  • Men’s wheelchair division winner: Marcel Hug, Switzerland, 1:25:26
  • Women’s wheelchair division winner: Susannah Scaroni, USA, 1:42:43
  • Top American wheelchair division man: Daniel Romanchuk (2nd), USA, 1:27:38
  • Top American wheelchair division woman: Susannah Scaroni (1st), USA, 1:42:43
  • Non-Binary Division: Jacob Caswell won the division by 24 minutes

Winner Statistics and Notable Information 

  • Open Division: Evans Chebet won his first New York title after winning Boston in April, the eighth man in history to win both races in the same year and the first since 2011
  • Open Division: Evans Chebet’s 2:08:41 winning time was the 14th-fastest winning time in race history
  • Open Division: Seven countries represented among the top 10 finishers in the men’s race: Kenya, Ethiopia, Netherlands, Morocco, Japan, Italy, and the United States
  • Open Division: Sharon Lokedi became the eighth athlete to win the race in their true marathon debut
  • Open Division: Sharon Lokedi finished 19th overall (men, women & nonbinary combined). This is the highest finish by a woman since Mary Keitany in 2015 (also 19th)
  • Wheelchair Division: Marcel Hug broke course record from 2006, and after also breaking course records in London and Chicago this fall
  • Wheelchair Division: Susannah Scaroni won her first New York title, and broke the course record from 2015 just 13 months after very serious car accident
