The INIT Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe is the first of seven Gold-level meetings in the 2023 World Athletics Indoor tour, a series of 54 meetings that has just begun.

Some exciting events, including a great series of Women’s 60-meter dashes featuring Dina Asher-Smith, Mujinga Kambundji, and Ewa Swoboda were fantastic. Ethiopia’s Abdisa Fayisa, in his first indoor meeting, at age of 17, ran a WL at 3,000 meters and the women’s 800m lead got off to a great start with Anita Hvorath.

The complete results come from World Athletics.

RunBlogRun visited the Indoor meeting in Karlsruhe in 2019 and loved the meet, the crowd, and the presentation.

The Karlsruhe Meeting seats about 4,000 fans and the fans are knowledgeable. They loved seeing German athletes but were very supportive of European and American athletes when I visited. I loved the entertainment feel of the meet and the enthusiasm of the crowd. The presser was good as well, and that helped build up the enthusiasm of the meeting.

The Messhalle, or meeting hall tradition dates back over a thousand years. It is a multi-use facility, much like Expo space in North America, for all kinds of events. The local running club and LOC that puts on this meet did a great job, and the World Athletics Gold level is a huge part of the respect for the event series.

We hope to visit the meeting again in the not-so-distant future.

So close 👀
