The 2023 USATF NYC Grand Prix was a huge success. It should show USATF that the Big Apple must be a part of their series of successful events building the sport as we head to 2028.
I have to tell you, from 11 am to 3 pm, the meeting was exciting! And watching the young fans meet their heroes was fantastic!
Hughes 9.83 WL NR, Sydney 49.51, Athing 1:58.73

NEW YORK (USA, Jun 24): Zharnel Hughes stormed in the last 40m to win the 100m sprint in a world-leading 9.83 (1.3), a national record for Great Britain at the USATF NYC Grand Prix (WACT Gold). It is also the second best-ever time by a European behind Marcell Jacobs (9.80); he outperformed Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake (9.93), while Christian Coleman dropped to third (10.02). Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone started significantly slower (23.74 / 200m), compared to Paris DL and again improved her 400m personal best to 49.51; Gabby Thomas was second (50.29).

Athing Mu, in her season’s debut, ignored the set pace and accelerated in the second lap to a comfortable 800m win in 1:58.73. Very fast but windy 100m hurdles for Kendra Harrison 12.29w (2.8) ahead of Alaysha Johnson (12.30w) and Danielle Williams of Jamaica (12.33w); men had more luck and got regular times, Daniel Roberts with 13.01 (1.6) over Devon Allen (13.04). Noah Lyles clearly won the 200m in 19.83 (0.8), and Aleia Hobbs topped the women’s 100m with 10.98 (1.2) over Jamaica’s Briana Williams (11.04).
