Week 3, Day 3, Recovery Week Three

Today, take a 45-50-minute run or a 45-minute walk.

2025 Winter Indoor Racing/Training Program, January 10, 2025, week 1, day 5, the focus on 2025 has just begun (day five)

This is the beginning of the third week of our two—to three-week recovery time. The idea is to get a physical, mental, and spiritual break. We read books, nap, goof off, and get outside and enjoy nature.

This week, we suggest daily (4-5) 45-minute runs in the cool part of the day, relaxed, as a pre-week for the Summer Mileage Program, something we have done since the early 2000s.

There were 13 meet records set at the Olympic Trials. That means it took a Meet record to win the Trials in a field with the best of the best.

That helps you appreciate the actual brilliance of the performances.

The women’s 1,500 meters was a tremendous race, with Nikki Hiltz leading eight Americans to their PBs, all under 4 minutes.

The Men’s 800 meters was a tremendous race, as Bryce Hoppel willed himself to win, leading the three medalists to PBs.

And the stories go on.

When USOC and USATF bring the very, very best in each event, you have a meet that, in many Olympiads, is better than the Olympics.

Enough said.

Alan Abrahamson wrote a piece about the honesty of the Olympic Trials system, which I encourage you to read: https://www.3wiresports.com/articles/2024/6/28/the-brutalist-trials-the-ultimate-american-exemplar-of-meritocracy-keep-it-that-way

A 45-50-minute easy run.

If you need something to do outside (it is hot today), walk 30 minutes early, ride a bike, or, best yet, take a leisurely swim and enjoy the day!
