Oleh Doroshchuk: “Each jump was really good. I knew that if I jump everything with the first attempt, I can win the gold. I did not want to risk. I felt pretty good during my all jumps. Artur Felfner, our javelin thrower, he is a very good friend of mine,he gave me this advice that I need to clear everything in the first. I tried to follow this and I got lucky. Every moment of the victory is really good. But this is also a historical moment for us as this is the first high jump indoor gold for men at the European championships. After 234, I decided to stop jumping because I became too emotional. It was my personal best so I decided that it is enough. For sure, this was the evening that I will remember for the rest of my life. I hope I made many people at home happy for this victory.”
Jeremiah Azu: “When my brother was pointing at me (from the stands) like ‘it was you, it was you’, I got crazy. I just exploded with emotions. It (the gold) means the world to me. They threw the flag towards me and I put it around me. It was so much fun to celebrate the title. It means everything to do this in front of my family, who were all here, too. It’s so great that I’m able to take them accross the world to experience athletics at the best level. I’m hoping to take those levels higher and higher.”
