AUSTIN (USA, Mar 28): Two-time World discus champion Valarie Allman opened her season with an early world lead of 66.72 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, winning ahead of Erika Beistle (60.46) and Amanda Ngandu-Ntumba of France (60.10). Curtis Thompson showed 87.76 WL/PB in the javelin throw, the best US mark since Breaux Greer’s NR (91.29) in 2007. In the 400m hurdles, wins for Rachel Glenn (54.86, WL=), Kody Blackwood (49.98 PB), and for World U20 champion Akala Garrett (55.49) in the invitational race. Ashton Hearn won the boys’ discus (3.5lbs/1.6kg) with 64.45, and Kendrick Smallwood improved to 13.35 (0.5), in the 110m hurdles prelims.
