BERGEN (NOR, Jul 19): Fast 400m races highlighted Saturday session at the European Athletics U23 Championships. Henriette Jæger clocked 49.74 CR to win the 400m from Yemi Mary John (50.50 PB and Tokyo standard) and Alexe Deau of France (50.94 PB), while Great Britain’s Emily Newnham topped the 400m hurdles in 54.08 CR and Tokyo standard ahead of German duo Vanessa Baldé (55.36) and Vivienne Morgenstern (55.45), lifetime bests for all. Audrey Werro produced a dominant 800m race and victory in 1:57.42 CR over Spain’s Rocio Arroyo (1:59.18 U23NR) and Abigail Ives of Great Britain (1:59.77).

Briton Success Eduan won the 200m in 22.74 (-0.7) from Henriette Jæger (22.78, unique double 400/200 on one afternoon) and Sweden’s Nora Lindahl (22.92). Two titles for Serbia, Angelina Topić cleared 195 in the high jump to win ahead of Engla Nilsson of Sweden (193) and Germany ‘s Joana Herrmann (191 PB), and Adriana Vilagoš topped the javelin with 62.41 ahead of Czechia’s Petra Sičaková (58.14) and Mirja Lukas of Germany (57.22). Finland’s Ilona Mononen clocked 9:30.49 to win the 3000m steeplechase from Marta Serrano of Spain (9:30.74) and Germany’s Adia Budde (9:32.14 PB), and Italian Alexandrina Mihai topped the 10,000m race walk in 43:49.55 PB ahead of Ana Delahaie of France (44:07.59 PB) and Italy’s Giulia Gabriele (44:19.31). Saga Vanninen leads the heptathlon after the first day with 3870 points, narrowly ahead of Abigail Pawlett (3867).
