JOMA became the footwear and apparel sponsor of European Athletics in March 2025, as it was announced at #Apeldoorn2025, the European Indoor Championships. JOMA is beginning to make a move into track and field, road running, and trail running. This came from a release from JOMA’s ad agency.
Joma accelerates on the track: launches the R-1100 with carbon plate and adds Manuel Guijarro to its elite team
The Spanish brand takes a major step into elite track sprinting with the launch of its first
spike shoe featuring a carbon plate: the R-1100, along with the creation of a
specialized sprint team.
Wednesday 16th july – Joma takes a firm step forward in its commitment to elite
athletics, making a bold entry into sprint events with the launch of its new R-1100
spike shoe. Designed for track use, it maximizes power and explosiveness through
cutting-edge technology and the incorporation of a carbon plate. It’s ideal for sprinters
specializing in the 100, 200, and 400 meters, as well as hurdles.

This launch also reinforces the brand’s push to boost its presence on the track with the
addition of new sprint specialists to its elite team, which already includes young
national talents such as Rodrigo Fito, U20 Spanish Indoor Champion in the 200
meters.
Manuel Guijarro: speed, effort, and talent
Manuel Guijarro is one of Spain’s standout athletes in the 400 meters, having
already made his mark on the international stage by winning multiple medals as part of
the Spanish relay team in major championships. Among his achievements are silver
medals at the European Indoor Championships in 2025 and 2019, as well as a
silver at the 2022 World Indoor Championships — where he also helped break
national records, including at the most recent European Team Championships held in
Madrid.

He has also been Ibero-American silver medalist, a top-8 finisher in two European
Outdoor Championships, and a multiple-time national podium finisher. Guijarro
has represented Spain in the most prestigious international competitions and has
become a key figure in the national athletics strategy leading up to the 2025 Tokyo
World Championships.
R-1100 spike shoe: more drive, maximum speed
Guijarro will compete wearing the new R-1100, a mixed sprint spike designed for track
events up to 400 meters and hurdles. Its ultra-light structure and reactive technology
offer high performance for athletes with refined running technique.

R-1100 marks a milestone in Joma’s footwear history, as it is the brand’s first
spike shoe to include a carbon plate—while maintaining Joma’s technical and
competitive DNA. It has already been tested in competition by athletes such as Rodrigo
Fito, who has contributed to the product’s launch.

Specifically, the R-1100 is designed to optimize the start, curve, and final sprint—all
critical in sprint events. The upper is made from lightweight, breathable technical
thread and features the VTS perforation system, which ensures proper sweat
ventilation and airflow. The JOMA SPORTECH heat-sealed fitting system, strategically
placed, eliminates friction zones.
The midsole features the new LIGHT REACTIVE technology, made with special
injected Pebax to reduce weight. The result is an ultra-light (170 grams), responsive
shoe that absorbs impact and delivers excellent energy return. The CARBON PLATE
offers outstanding performance by maximizing propulsion and energy transfer, enabling
a faster, more efficient stride. This technology also reduces muscle fatigue by
minimizing the effort needed in each race.
The outsole is made from lightweight, abrasion-resistant nylon with a front metal spike
structure to ensure grip and traction on the track.

Through this dual initiative, Joma continues to grow in one of its flagship sports with a
focus on performance and innovation.
