TOKYO 2025 DAY 7

QUOTE OF THE DAY
I can’t wait for 2027 to become the only man to win five 200 metres titles. Today, I didn’t have the start I had in the semi-final but I knew I was still moving fast. I studied my competitors. I knew their momentum was going to show up once we got closer to 150m but mine was going to build up after I hit that mark. Being patient was the most important thing. I controlled the race.  I don’t have good memories from Tokyo in 2021. At that time I was depressed, but this time I am energized. Now I want to win the gold medal in the relay,” Noah Lyles.RESULT OF THE DAY

TOKYO NEWS

TOKYO (JPN): Evening session on Friday had  58 643 spectators.

TOKYO (JPN): Emma Zapletalova agfter missing 3 years with injuries won the fifth Slovakian medal in World Championships history and just their second in a track event. “It was my dream season from the beginning and my great comeback on the track after struggling with numerous injuries over two years. I still see space to improve as I again did not achieved the 15 steps until 8th hurdle,” she said.

TOKYO (JPN): Swiss Annik Kälin had to withdraw from her World Championships heptathlon due to injury. The Swiss athlete, who travelled to Tokyo with a bad condition, had already competed in the long jump competition and injured herself in qualifying. “After several tests and an MRI, it turned out to be a stress reaction in the talus, some overstretched ligaments, swelling, bleeding in the joint, and an irritated tendon. Unfortunately, this means my season ends here and I cannot compete in the heptathlon,” she wrote on Instagram.

TOKYO (JPN): Canadian decathlon star Damian Warner and his team have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the decathlon event at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, due to an Achilles issue that has worsened over the past couple of days.

TOKYO (JPN): In the tough 5000 m heats out Sweden Andreas Almgren, Niels Laros and two out of 3 Kenyans. USA and France had all 3 runners qualified.

TOKYO (JPN): With a national record of 63.25m, Juleisy Angulo became the first athlete from Ecuador to qualify for a field event final in the history of the World Championships. “Paula Milena Torres’ bronze medal in the race walk for our country inspired me a lot. We are both the same age. Now I’m at my third championships, it’s time for a medal,” she said.

TOKYO (JPN: Women high jump final was brought from 19.30 start to 19.05.

TOKYO (JPN): “I was literally thinking about that while walking into the stadium today (he was in bed in hospital during last Worlds),” Keshorn Walcott recalled. “I was watching that final from my hospital room in Finland. It’s been a completely different two years.” Walcott credits his resurgence to his coach, German biomechanics expert Klaus Bartonietz, who once guided India’s Neeraj Chopra to Olympic gold in Tokyo. The pair began working together last October, initially only through video calls and training data. They met in person for the first time in May — just four months before these championships — after Walcott relocated to Germany to train near Bartonietz’s home. From aipsmedia.com.

TOKYO (JPN): In April 2024, the queen of triple jump Yulimar Rojas was knocked down with what, for most athletes, should have been a career ending injury to her achilles tendon.  Now after medal in Tokyo and after missing out on defending her Olympic title in Paris last year due to her injury, Rojas is determined to compete in Los Angeles in 2028 and take back what was hers.  She has unfinished business with the Olympics, as it is the only title she is yet to be able to defend.

TOKYO (JPN): Swedish fans Kalle and Magnus haven not missed World championships from Tokyo 91 to Tokyo 25. Dressed in yellow and blue, the two Swedes stand out immediately. Kalle’s horned cap, covered in pins and worn by the years, tells its own story of passion. For more than thirty years, they haven’t missed a single World Championship. An exceptional loyalty: Kalle, 72, began his pilgrimage back in 1991 in Tokyo, while Magnus, 67, had already attended the very first two editions in Helsinki and Rome. Today, they are back where their adventure began. From aipsmedia.com
