GLASGOW (GBR, Jul 30): The athletics program on Thursday at the Commonwealth Games ended with a high-quality 100 m hurdles final. World indoor champion Devynne Charlton, after a top start, took the lead in windy 12.33 (+2.5).
First gold for the Bahamas in this event at the Games. Second was Megan Simmonds in 12.41, and only third was Tobi Amusan (12.60), who was so fast in the heats.

Australian Rose Davies topped the double as she, after 10k, also won the 5000 m in 14:44.53 over team-mate Jessica Hull 14:45.01 and home Scotland´s Megan Keith 14:49.10. Best Kenyan Caroline Nyaga only 6th (14:54.00). Davies only 2nd Australian gold at this distance among women.

Olympic winner Thea LaFond won the triple jump for Dominica 14.60 (+0.7) after silver and bronze in the last two editions. Other medals for Jamaica: Ackelia Smith 14.04 (+1.0) and Shantae Foreman 13.96 (+1.3).
First Nigerian shot put gold by Chukwu Enekwechi 21.07 in the 5th round over top favorite and winner of the last two editions, Tom Walsh 21.03, leading from round one, and Scott Lincoln 20.99. No surprise in women’s discus with Jamaican Samantha Hall winning with 61.66 (first gold for Jamaica ever in this event) ahead of Canadian Julia Tunks 60.67. Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands clocked 22.01 (+1.7), a new Games record, as fastest in women’s 200m semifinals. Also fast: 22.31 (+1.5), a PB, by Shaniqua Bascombe from Trinidad and Tobago in the other semifinal.
Sinesipho Dambile clocked windy 19.82 (+2.3) in the 200m semifinals. The 100 m winner, Emmanuel Eseme, with 20.32, did not qualify, but his rival, Lachlan Kennedy, was more successful at 20.12. Both in the Dambile heat. Interestingly, Zharnel Hughes also qualified in 20.67 (+3.5) as 6th in his semifinal.

Wycliffe Kinyamal from Kenya was the fastest in the men’s 800 m semifinals, 1:44.81; the top names out were Max Burgin. Damian Warner leads the decathlon with an overnight score of 4353 (10.21w and 777), ahead of Tejaswin Shankar 4339 and Sammy Ball 4249.
