Editor’s notes: I found this while editing on Saturday, dear readers. This is one of my favorite interviews with Galen, whom I first interviewed two decades ago.

Seeing Galen Rupp perform so well at the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon brought tears to my eyes. Seeing Galen confident once again, working with Coach Mike Smith and having three good training blocks, three marathons getting better each time, and now his 2:06:55 marathon, a new US Masters (40-44) record, shows me that Mr. Rupp is focused on his fifth team.

Learn more about four-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medalist Galen Rupp (2012 silver in the 10,000m, 2016 bronze in the marathon) in this relaxed interview. Very introspective and thoughtful.

Good luck, Galen Rupp, dream on!

LA2028 is looking good!
