TALENCE (FRA, Jun 22): After a 2.02m high jump – a world record in a heptathlon, Nafi Thiam leads the Decastar (IAAF CE Challenge) combined events by 299 points on 4133. Competing in her first heptathlon of the year, the world and Olympic champion’s performance was highlighted by the Belgian record in the second event for 1264 points. That was after 13.49 in the 100m hurdles. She added 6cm to her outdoor PB in the shot with 14.51m and clocked 24.55 for the 200m. More good performances on day two could see Carolina Kluft’s European record of 7032 under threat. Odile Ahouanwanou lies second on 3834. Laura Ikauniece is third with 3792. In the decathlon Pierce Lepage is 253 points up on currently second-placed Zach Ziemek after five events. His 4558 tally cme partly courtesy of PBs of 10.20 in the 100m and 14.21m in the shot. World record holder Kevin Mayer competed in three events only (10.60, 755, 15.56) as a precaution due to knee pain. He plans still to compete in hurdles and pole vault on Sunday.
