We’re still not over @thiam_nafi‘s incredible 2.02m jump yesterday 😱

She broke the heptathlon high jump world best, and was just 7cm short of the overall world record 😳

Thiam despite injury 6819 WL

TALENCE (FRA, Jun 23): Despite injuring her elbow in the javelin, Nafissatou Thiam still set a world-leading score of 6819 points in the Talence Decastar. Thiam was on European record pace overnight and she was still ahead of European record pace after opening her second day with a national record of 6.67m in the long jump. However she injured her elbow in the javelin and could only manage 47.25m before sitting out her last attempt. She finished her day with a 2:20.46 clocking in the 800m to eclipse Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s world lead by six points. Xenia Krizsan was second with a Hungarian record of 6619 points and Latvia’s Laura Ikauniece continued her excellent form on her return from injury, finishing third with 6518 points. France’s European indoor pentathlon bronze medallist Solene Ndama was fourth with a lifetime best of 6290 points. In the decathlon, Canada’s Pierce LePage improved his lifetime best from 8171 to 8453 points to win the decathlon (14.40 110m hurdles, 44.46m discus, 5.25m pole vault, 55.22m javelin and 4:59.76 1500m) from Zach Ziemek from the United States (8344 points) and Belgium’s Thomas van der Plaetsen whose score of 8214 points was his best since the 2016 Olympics. Competing in selected events, Kevin Mayer was first in the 110m hurdles (13.90) and discus (50.15m) and also cleared 5.05m in the pole vault.
