Patrick Makau of Kenya won the 31st BMW Frankfurt Marathon, as expected, but never threatened his world record time of 2.03.38, as he won on a very cool but bright morning in 2.06.08. Deressa Chimsa of Ethiopia was second in 2.06.52, and 2009 winner, Gilbert Kirwa of Kenya was third in 2.07.35.
Meselech Melkamu of Ethiopia won her debut marathon, in a new course record of 2.21.05, with Kenyan Georgina Rono second in 2.21.42, and defending champion, Mamitu Daska of Ethiopia was third in 2.23.56.
