This is Week Six, Day five of the 2022 RunBlogRun Summer Cross Country Mileage Program. We have two more weeks of the summer mileage program, and then we get the Fall Cross Country Training program going.
My story today for you is with Eilish McColgan. Eilish’s Mom is Liz McColgan. Liz took Olympic silver in 1988, (10,000), World Champs (10,000m) gold in 1991, and two Commonwealth Golds in 1986 and 1990 in the 10,000m , and a bronze at 3,000m.
Eilish was always compared to her Mum. Liz coaches Eilish as well. Prior to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Eilish had competed in 3 Commonwealth Games, once at 1,500 meters, once at the steeplechase and once at the 5,000 meters.
In Birmingham, for Eilish, it came down to the final 100 meters, after 24.8 laps, and Eilish had to call on everything that she had, to sprint by her competition and take the gold. The crowd was crazy loud for her. The gold has changed her life. When she competed at the 5,000m, she took the silver.
Sometimes dreams do come true!
