This is my daily chat with
#RunBlogRun viewers and track fans on all things track & field!
Our topics today:
1. The New York City Marathon, the first of the Big City Marathons.
2. The 1976 course, the one used now, was only supposed to be run one year, but no one told Fred Lebow that!
3. NYC became the model for other big city marathons.
4. This is NYC Marathon week.
5. Will cover the NYC Marathon remotely this week. Thanks to Justin Lagat and Jeff Benjamin.
6. More cross-country state meets this weekend, and college conferences and regionals are happening as well!
7. Athletics (cross country and track) count for 1/9 high school athletes or 1.6 /9.7 million athletes competing in high schools!
8. 30th fatality walking in San Jose, CA this year. Lesson: please wear highly visible clothes when running around dusk, and stop selfies when running in traffic areas.
9. Stay Safe!

Larry Eder has had a 52-year involvement in the sport of athletics. Larry has experienced the sport as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now, journalist and blogger. His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from American Athletics to the U.S. version of Spikes magazine. He currently manages the content and marketing development of the RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun. Of RunBlogRun, his daily pilgrimage with the sport, Larry says: "I have to admit, I love traveling to far away meets, writing about the sport I love, and the athletes I respect, for my readers at runblogrun.com, the most of anything I have ever done, except, maybe running itself." Also does some updates for BBC Sports at key events, which he truly enjoys.
Theme song: Greg Allman, " I'm no Angel."
