Witness the Wonder, World Outdoor Athletics Championships Budapest 2023, Day 26, Sha'Carri Richardson is running towards Budapest!

This is Witness the Wonder, the Preview to the 2023 World Champs in Budapest for Day 26, May 13, 2023.

For the next 19 days, RunBlogRun will be posting a story a day on the buildup to the World Athletics Outdoor Championships, to be held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19-August 27, 2023.

Sha’Carri Richardson won a 200 meters race at the Kip Keino Classic today.

Sha’Carri won by .70 of a second. That is a huge amount. At the top of her form, Sha’Carri had a strong start and flew down the straight; by the time the American sprinter took the turn, she was flying. By 150 meters, Sha’Carri had the race in hand, and with 30 meters to go, Sha’Carri showed a sign of absolute delight in her strong racing, enjoying the moment of her victory in front of 60,000 screaming fans in the Moi International Sports Centre.

This is what Sha’Carri Richardson said to the media after Kip Keino Classic 200m:

“After the victory in Botswana, I knew I had to come here and do my best. I was excited even though I was disappointed in the choice. I wanted to compete in the 100m, but still, I had to do it for myself, my fans, and my lovers. I’m honored; I’m all about peace, love, and life. I loved the crowd. This is so funny.”

This season has been exciting for one of our sport’s most popular track and field athletes. Sha’Carri took the 100 meters at the Miramar Invitational with a 10.75 wind-aided and 10.56 wind-aided sprint as well.

Last weekend, on May 5, this writer witnessed Sha’Carri Richardson take the Men’s 100-meter in 10.76, with Sherika Jackson and Abby Steiner, two of the seven athletes who have run sub 11 seconds in past races.

How does one describe Sha’Carri’s racing style?

Sha’Carri has an explosive start, and her speed can be seen over the last 40 meters of the race. Her power over the last 40 meters of the race gives her control of the event in a dramatic way. And the crowds love it!

For Sha’Carri to make the U.S. team to Budapest, she will have to finish in the top 3 in the 100 meters or 200 meters at the USATF Outdoor Champs, in Eugene, Oregon, in July 6-9, 2023. Sha’Carri will have to battle the finest sprinters in the U.S. Is this her year?

This writer thinks so.

Sha’Carri Richardson has shown, in 2023, that she has the speed and racing acumen to make the U.S. team at the 100 meters and 200 meters. This will be a challenging next seven weeks until the championships.

In my observation, Sha’Carri Richardson’s biggest challenge is how she controls her narrative. She has been adored and also criticized in social media and the media. Sha’Carri has learned a good lesson, and she speaks now when she feels that it is appropriate and is, more or less, letting her feet do her talking for her. And watch carefully, as those feet are fast!
