Sacramento to host 2014 USA Outdoor T&F Champs, by Alfons Juck, deep thoughts by Larry Eder

The 2000 and 2004 Olympic Trials were two of my favorite events, period. Great competitions, great fans, great venues, and terrific performances.

The 1995 US Champs, also held in Sacramento, was a fantastic meet.

And now, Max Siegel, CEO of USA Track & Field announces that the 2014 USA Outdoor Championships are going to Sacramento, California.

Well, I have just three words to communicate to Mr. Siegel:

Well done, Max.

Few other cities in the U.S., besides Eugene, can put together well-run, well- attended US championships. Sacramento is one of few. Perhaps it is because they realize that, no matter what the venue, one must convince even the most die-hard track fans that four to six days of track & field for a U.S. champs is a worthy vacation that summer.

INDIANAPOLIS (USA): USATF has officially announced that the 2014 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Sacramento on June 26-29. USATF CEO Max Siegel said "Sacramento has a tremendous track & field culture and we are very pleased to be returning in 2014. "The fan support in the region is fantastic, and the weather conditions serve sprinters, field event athletes and distance runners alike. We look forward to another successful partnership with the Sacramento Sports Commission." The Sacramento Sports Commission will serve as the local organising committee for the championships. Sacramento has previously hosted the USA Olympic Trials in 2000 and 2004, and the NCAA Track and Field Championships in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
