INDIANAPOLIS (USA): Jerry Schumacher whose Bowerman Track Club athletes in 2017 won three medals at the IAAF World Championships, as well as an historic marathon victory, has been named USATF's 2017 Nike Coach of the Year, USATF announced. Schumacher will be honored at the 2017 Jesse Owens Banquet on Saturday, December 2 in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the USATF Annual Meeting.

RunBlogRun: We do not get many pictures of Jerry Schumacher. The photo above was when Jerry was coaching both Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan. Jerry Schumacher just watched Shalane Flanagan, who has continued to be coach by Shalane Flanagan, who just won the New York City Marathon, At the recent World Champs, Jerry coached Evan Jager (bronze, steeplechase), Courtney Frerichs (silver, steeplechase) and Amy Cragg (bronze medal, marathon). Jerry Schumacher is a fine coach, who works with his athletes long term, challenging them to find the best performance in themselves. We tip our hat to USATF who picked Coach Schumacher for this well deserved award.
