Alyssa Aldridge and Noah Affolder Capture First Place Titles in 38th annual FootLocker cross country champs (NorthEast Regional)

Van Cortlandt Park was the site of the 38th annual FootLocker cross country regional, the most enduring high school championship series in high school sports. With clear skies and modest temperatures (50 degrees), the racers challenged the famous course in Van Cortlandt Park. We highlight the top ten boys and girls below!

On the girls’s side, Alyssa Aldridge of Linwood, New Jersey lead the field with a time of 17:41. Jacqueline Gaughan of Exeter, New Hampshire took second, fifteen seconds behind, in 17:56. Maria Coffin of Annapolis, Maryland, who placed third in the 2015 version of the NorthEast regional, also placed third in 2016, in 18:00.

Grace Connolly, Natick, MA, 18:02, 5. Page Lester, Washington D.C., 18:05, 6. Hayley Jackson, Lusby, MD, 18:06. 7. Taryn Parks, Greencastle, PA, 18:06, 8. Alison Willingmyre, Wernersville, PA, 18:06, 9. Abigail Green, Bethesda, MD., 18:06, 10. Julien Webster, Thurmont, MD., 18:09

On the boy’s side, defending champion, Noah Alffolder, Carlise, PA won the Northeast region in 15:29. In second was Samuel Affolder, yes, the younger brother of Noah, in 15:37. In third, Patrick O’Brien, from Durham, New Hampshire, ran 15:38. Patrick’s mom is Cathy (Schiro) O’Brien, still course record holder for FootLocker Northeast (Cathy won the 1981 FootLocker Champs).

Dalton Hengst, York, PA, 15:45, 6. William Merritt, Smithburg, MD, 15:45, 7. Matt Grossman, Millburn, NJ, 15:47, 8. Zachary Skolnekovich, Sewickley, PA, 15:48, 9. Nathan Hendersen, Lancaster, PA, 15:48, 10. Andrew Thompson, Trumbull, CONN, 15:49.

Top ten boys and girls of Northeast will join the top ten from Midwest, West, and South FootLocker regionals for the 38th annual FootLocker Cross Country Championships, in San Diego, CA on December 10, 2016.
