The women’s steeplechase started as expected. The difference was, that even in this fast race, Americans Emma Coburn, and Courtney Frerichs took this moment to run to their heart’s content. The final lap was bone chilling, as Emma Coburn ran down the finest steeplechasers in the world, and Courtney Frerichs came on fire, and did the same. Emma Coburn told us that her coach, now coach and husband, Joe, told her to be more agressive. Emma did that and ran an AR plus took gold, Courtney broke previous AR and took silver. This is my best moment of August 2018.
The women’s steeplechase at the London World Champs was the a nearly Billy Mills moment. Emma Coburn listened to her coach (now husband) and Courtney Frerichs listened to her coach. Both athletes, full of emotion, speed and vigor, put smiles on every American distance running fan face after that run!
Here’s the high definitiion press conference, prepared, shot and managed by the Shoe Addicts. Thanks to their focus on the shoot, I could focus on asking good questions. This is a fine presser and lots to learn for athetes and coaches.
