Reekie beats Muir
TRIESTE (ITA, Aug 1): Jemma Reekie narrowly came out on top after a great 800m contest at Triveneto Meeting. Her 1:59.52 was an outdoor PB and EL following her 1:57.91 breakthrough earlier this year and put her two hundredths in front of fellow Brit Laura Muir. Hedda Hynne was third in 1:59.94 with Selina Buchel fourth on 1:59.97. Andrew Pozzi was sixth hundredths outside his world lead time of 13.30 in winning in the 110m hurdles 13.36 (+1.4). In the absence of Wayde van Niekerk, who had to pull out due to a Covid scare (although his last test was negative), Edoardo Scotti won the 400m with 45.85 PB over Luka Janezic 45.88. Lamont Marcell Jacobs won the 100m with a season’s best 10.10 (+1.6) taking Sean Safo-Antwi to 10.25 and Joris van Gool to 10.27. Olympic winner Thiago Braz won the pole vault with 5.50m. Filippo Randazzo got 795 (-0.2) in long jump, Leonardo Fabbri 20.68 in shot put. Spain´s record holder Pablo Torrijos achieved 16.86 (+0.5) in triple. Luminosa Bogliolo won hurdles 12.91 (+0.7) with Elisa Di Lazzaro 13.06 national U23 record. Slovenian Anita Horvat won the 400 m in 52.98 and Anna Bongiorni 11.44 (+0.1) beat in the 100 m finals German Tatjana Pinto 11.59 (both 11.41 in heats) and Irene Siragusa 11.72 who posted the fastest of the day 11.39 in heats.
