This is the second week of RunBlogRun’s Summer Mileage Program, day 3, and our focus is Sinclaire Johnson.
Sinclaire Johnson is one of our most talented American distance runners. Sinclaire is coached by Peter Julian, and she runs for the Union Athletic Club. Prior to 2021, Sinclaire ran for the Bowerman Track Club since graduating from Oklahoma State University in 2019.
Sinclaire ran cross country and track in high school. Sinclaire went from 2:18.70 to 2:08.71 at the 800m in high school. In college, Sinclaire concentrated on the 800m and 1,500m, running the 800m in 2:04.79 PB and 4:05.98 PB.
In 2019, Sinclaire Johnson won the NCAA Division 1 Champs at 1,500m, running a PB in 4:05.98. What a way to end your senior year in College.
From 2019 to 2021, Sinclaire ran for the Bowerman Track Club. In the 2021 Olympic Trials, Sinclaire ran 4:08.81 in 12th place. In the 800 meters, she ran 2:04.81, but did not get out of the heats.
Running for the Union Athletic Track Club, Sinclaire Johnson broke 4 minutes for the first time at the 2022 NIKE Pre Classic in 3:58.85 PB.
Sinclaire Johnson added a second nationals to her NCAA title with a win at the 2022 US Champs qualifying her for the World Outdoor Champs in Eugene, where she took sixth in the 1,500m final.
Sinclaire Johnson is a versatile runner. In some years, you have good years, and some time, tough years.
In 2023, Sinclaire Johnson finished 4th in the US Champs at the 1,500 meters, and made the semi-finals at the Budapest 2023 outdoor champs.

In 2024, Sinclaire started off taking the bronze medal in Glasgow, finishing strong after trying to steal the race in a very tactical event, which saw Sinclaire finish in bronze and Nikki Hiltz finish in silver, just passing Sinclaire at the finish. Last spring, Sinclaire changed her coaching relationship, moving from Pete Julian to Craig Nowak.
At the Olympic Trials in 2024, Sinclaire finished 4th in one of the deepest 1,500m ever. Sinclaire ran a PB of 3:56.75, a strong PB.
In 2025, Sinclaire Johnson is poised for a great year in 2025. She took sixth at the Pre Classic in the 1,500m in 3:56.93 for sixth place on 5 July. She ran a 1000m in 2:31.30 in Monaco on July 11, taking fourth.
Sinclaire Johnson is two weeks away from the US Championships, and she will be one of the key players in one of the most strategic event on the US championships schedule.
Cross country was one of the ways that Sinclaire Johnson entered the sport. How did you get involved in the sport?
The road to 2025 Cross country is just beginning
Time to build some mileage for fall cross country!
Today is July 16 , 2025
Week One, Day Three, Summer Mileage.
Wednesday, warm-up, 45-60 minutes easy running, cooldown.
Some thoughts on summer mileage program.
Have you considered cross country?
Cross Country is offered in over 16,500 high schools and many junior high schools. It normally goes from mid-August to November for most. To prepare for cross country, we at RunBlogRun encourage you and your 550,000 closest friends who like the 400m to 5,000m, consider cross country!
It is a great way to stay in shape and it builds your fitness so that you are ready for the challenges of cross country.
What motivated Steve Prefontaine in the summer between his sophomore and junior year?
Was it the knowledge that he had not done his very best in track and field? Perhaps, he had not taken his commitment as serious as he thought he should?
When you have not achieved what you expected, how do you respond? Are you being called to put in some more effort? Many of us have had those challenges, and Summer mileage is a great program to get one self focused.
Think about five things you can do better for fall cross country, write them on a post card, and tape it to a place in your room where you will see it at least once a day!
Remember to drink 8 glasses of water, 12 ounces each a day!
When Pre was in high school, after he failed to make his State track meet as a sophomore, he became obsessed with daily training. These were not just easy runs, they were bone-churning, gut-wrenching efforts focused to make him unbeatable. In his junior year of cross country, Pre saw that his summer of running made a huge difference.

Do you want to be a better cross country runner than you were in the past? Focus and follow our training. It is all about the consistency.
Other book suggestions include Self Made Olympian by Ron Daws, A Clean Pair of Heels by Murray Halberg, and Pre! by Tom Jordan.
The Nike Pegasus PLUS is a great entry shoe for high school cross country. You should consider it, and learn more about it at nike.com. It is light, cushioned, a good summer mileage shoe. If you need a little more cushioning, try the Vomero 18. The Vomero 18 has more cushioning that the Pegasus PLUS. If you like NIKE, I would suggest high schoolers use the NIKE Pegasus PLUS for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I would suggest the Vomero 18 for Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I always suggest two pairs of training shoes. Why on Vomero 18? It is a cushioned shoe that feels great and is good on the roads and trails.
