In Hungary, throws are, well, exalted. Imre Nemeth, HUN, won the gold in the hammer in 1948. His sons, Miklos Nemeth won Montral 1976 javelin on first throw, leading by 8 feet!

In Budapest, 2023, the crowd roared when Bence HALÁSZ challenged the best in the world, holding on for the bronze. In Tokyo, Bence threw 82.69m, taking the bronze!

This is what Bence told the media in the Mixed Zone after his superb medal!

“Tonight we have the competition of the century in our event with so many throws over 82m. It’s incredible. I think nobody could predict something like that. I’m proud what I achieved and dissappointed at the same time. Hungary has never had a world championships winner in the men’s hummer throw. My compatriots are hungry for these gold medals. I know that many people says that it’s impossible to beat Ethan Katzberg at the moment. I cannot agree. I know what I was capable on. I know what kind of result I have been preparing for, not only in last two weeks but all through the year. I completely changed my training system. The basics remain the same but we changed the quality and quantity. We changed my gym training. I also tried to reform my body and lost 10kg of fat. I can do jumps and sprints much better. I improved my personal best this season and I improved it even more tonight. Ok. Let leave it for 2026.”

This interview was done at adidas Hospitality in Tokyo. Each major brand has a refuge for their athletes and family. Special thanks to Alessandra Corbi, adidas Comms Global, who took my questions and did the interviews of the three hammer medalists!

Please enjoy!
